LAMDA Exams at Footlights
At Footlights, we believe every child should have the opportunity to develop their creativity and celebrate their achievements. That’s why we’re proud to offer our students the chance to take LAMDA (London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art) examinations in Acting and Musical Theatre.
We have been preparing students for LAMDA exams for over 20 years and are incredibly proud of their outstanding results.
What is LAMDA?
LAMDA is the oldest drama school in the UK and has provided theatre and the world of television and film with generations of first-class actors. LAMDA examinations are designed to equip candidates, whatever their age and aspirations, with a range of skills that will serve them throughout life. LAMDA Exams is accredited as an Awarding Body by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) of England.
While many parents think of LAMDA as a drama exam, it’s so much more. The programme is designed to help young people develop valuable life skills, including communication, teamwork, presentation, creativity and self-confidence. These are skills that benefit students in school, future careers and everyday life, whether they dream of performing professionally or simply enjoy being part of the theatre.
Which LAMDA exams can students take?
Footlights students can choose to work towards Acting and/or Musical Theatre examinations.
Our experienced teachers assess every student and recommend the most suitable grade, considering their age, experience and previous LAMDA qualifications. This ensures they are challenged at the right level while feeling supported throughout the process.
How do we prepare students?
Preparing for a LAMDA exam is about much more than learning lines or songs.
Students receive dedicated coaching alongside their regular Footlights classes, working with our experienced teachers to develop performance technique, vocal skills, characterisation, storytelling and stage presence. As students progress through the grades, tuition becomes increasingly personalised to help them reach their full potential.
